The media has been awash with reports of shortage of drugs and financial challenges affecting the health sector. The warning from the Ministry of Health Principal Secretary is widely seen as an attempt to centralize information and gag district health officers from talking to the media on the challenges affecting the sector.
MISA Malawi considers the development as retrogressive considering the advocacy on access to information legislation.
"They should find a better way of improving their communication. The warning is defeating decentralization if it demands that their district PROs should always liaise with the national PRO on health issues," MISA Malawi chairperson Thom Khanje said
