Freedom of Expression Tracker: Expelled

There has been interference into the operations of media houses especially those in remote areas. Previously, Northern Province Minister, Freedom Sikazwe was involved in the closure of a community Radio Station, Walamo while Then sportd Minister, Chishimba Kambwili stormed UNZA Radio, registered as a community radio station and threatened student journalists working at the institution. MISA monitored all the above and strongly reprimanded the perpetrators. Below are some links to related stories:

MISA Stance:

A team from MISA Zambia led by Chairperson Hellen Mwale visited the station during the very weekend and held meetings with the concerned parties to help resolve the situation. This was after MISA Zambia received report of the dissolution.

MISA Zambia monitored the situation while attempting to engage the Provincial Minister Mr. Chisopa. A statement was issued which in part threatened legal action against the minister, declaring his decision as null and void.

MISA Zambia is still considering initiating the litigation process to reverse the dissolution.
