Freedom of Expression Tracker: Violation of public foe

According to The Sunday Mail edition of 10 April 2016, the measures are meant to protect citizens’ rights following a surge in social media abuse through propagating falsehoods, defamation, character assassination and national security threats.
MISA Stance:
In coming up with these measures the government should be mindful of the constitutionally guaranteed Bill of Rights, international law and all the treaties and conventions Zimbabwe is party to that guarantee fundamental human rights. The government risks costly challenges by citizens and civil society in the Constitutional Court if it proceeds with haste and without taking into consideration citizens’ constitutionally guaranteed rights to dignity, privacy, and personal security, freedom of expression and access to information.
