Zimbabwe: College head threatens journalist with death
05 Mar 2015
Winstone Antonio, a reporter with Zimbabwean newspaper NewsDay, was on 4 March 2015 threatened with death by Rockland College’s Principal Director, McDonald Makondesa. He was threatened after he asked for a comment on allegations that the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) was withholding the college’s Ordinary Level geography results.
Antonio wanted clarity on why ZIMSEC had not released the results amid suspicion that the paper had been leaked at the college and the examining body was conducting investigations.
Makondese questioned Antonio whether he was a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation or a police officer. He then threatened to kill him adding, that the journalist would rot in jail.
