Zimbabwe: New advocacy committee members elected in Mutare
Journalist Kenneth Matimaire was on 15 October 2014 elected Mutare Advocacy Committee Chairperson for the next three years during elections presided over by members of MISA-Zimbabwe’s National Governing Council.
Farai Matebvu was elected Secretary- General. Evidence Chenjerai, George Muzimba and Mandy Kanyemba were elected uncontested as committee members.
In his acceptance speech, Matimaire said his immediate task is to expand the membership base and enhance MISA-Zimbabwe’s visibility in Manicaland province. He appealed to media stakeholders to unite in the struggle for media freedom, access to information and freedom of expression.
Former Chairperson Sydney Saize who did not seek a fresh mandate, congratulated the new crop of leadership and urged the membership in Manicaland to support the new committee saying the work ahead requires unity of purpose.
Columbus Mavhunga, MISA-Zimbabwe Board Member, said the new committee should liaise and continue to work with members of the former committee to ensure continuity. Mavhunga said the conduct of the new office bearers should always be reflective of that of MISA brand ambassadors.
Similar elections for new Advocacy Committees will be held in Masvingo, Harare, Chinhoyi, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Gwanda , Kwekwe and Gweru.
