Botswana: RB2 gets thumbs up from NBB
RB2 has received its operating license from the National Broadcasting Board (NBB). The station is said to have been established 10 years before the NBB came into existence. Read

Zambia: Opposition party supporters storm community radio station
On January 20 police in Lusaka opened a docket against Patriotic Front (PF), Roan Member of Parliament (MP) Chishimba Kambwili for allegedly threatening violence at two guests who appeared on a MUVI TV programme. Read

Zambia: Opposition Member of Parliament storms private television station premises and threatens violence
Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on November 18 officially launched a Public Broadcasting Report based on a survey carried out by Africa Governance Monitoring and Advocacy Project (AFRIMAP), Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa(OSISA), Open Society Institute Media Programme (OSIMP), in conjunction with MISA-Zimbabwe. Malawi: State-controlled broadcaster bans local artist’s music
State-controlled broadcaster the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has banned the latest album of the country’s celebrated musician Lucius Banda, from enjoying airplay on the station’s airwaves. Read more |
Zambia: MISA Zambia calls on government to step up preparations for digital migration

Malawi: Police shut down second pirate radio station in four months
Police in Kasungu district have arrested two men on suspicion that they were operating a radio station without a license from the country’s communications regulatory body, the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA). Read more

Malawi: Board appoints new MACRA boss

Zambia: President decides to include private and public media on his official trips

South Africa: President appoints SABC’s twelve non-executive board members
South African President Jacob Zuma on December 18 appointed, twelve non-executive members of the Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) as recommended by the National Assembly. Read more |
Zambia: The media warned against piracy
An Intellectual Property Specialist, Kingsley Nkonde, has warned community radio and television stations in the country to desist from broadcasting movies and music videos without owners' rights. Read more |
Zambia: ZNBC launches a new television channel
The Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, ZNBC on January 15 launched its second channel, TV2. The national broadcaster has been running a single television channel since the introduction of television in Zambia about 48 years ago. Read more |
Malawi: State-controlled broadcasters’ merger threatens job cuts
Employees of the country’s state-broadcasters, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Television Malawi (TVM) are living in fear following news that the two broadcasters would soon be merged. Read more |
Botswana: GBC-TV rebrands, gets national licence
