High Court bail hearing for detained journalist Madzikatidze continues

What happened

Detained journalist Gideon Madzikatidze, employed by Bulawayo 24, appeared before the High Court in Harare on 16 March 2026, for his bail appeal hearing. 

The matter was not finalised and was postponed to Wednesday, 18 March 2026, for the continuation of the bail hearing.

Meanwhile, Madzikatidze was remanded to 24 March 2026 for the provision of a trial date when he appeared in court at the Harare Magistrates Court on 17 March 2026 on a routine remand.

Madzikatidze is  facing two charges:

  • Contravening Section 7 (1) read with subsection 4 (b) of the Broadcasting Services Act [Chapter 12:06] (providing a broadcasting service without a licence).
  • Cyberbullying as defined in Section 164B of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].
